Why is Bull Terrier the perfect dog breed for you PDF Print E-mail

Bull Terrier was classified by the American Kennel Club as a member of the terrier group and was developed for fighting purposes.  However over the years its reputation has been bad and people do not prefer it as their family pet. It is a good dog and all that it needs is proper training and care. It can become a loving and sweet dog if you handle it properly.

It is a very powerful dog which weighs 55 to 70 pounds. Its head is bullet shaped and it also has a wide chest. These unique features help to distinguish it from other breeds like the American Pit Bull Terrier. It's a solidly built, muscular animal which comes in brindle or pure white. There are white markings on Brindle dogs but they are never totally white.

This dog loves the company of children. It will mix easily with your family and will play frisbee for hours. However they need to be handled properly. They can be quite aggressive if they are mistreated. They can even be ferocious so you should treat them properly. Don't leave your dog alone with children who are visiting your home. They might take them as other animals and this can be very dangerous. They can adjust to apartment life fairly well though they prefer to live in a home with a big fenced yard. Make sure that the dog does not escape. You must take them for regular walks. You should not have another small dogs or cats at home along with the Bull Terrier. This can be a lethal combination.

These dogs don't eat as much as the Great Dane, but can still bring an obvious difference in your grocery budget. You should not buy a Bull Terrier if you've no experience of keeping dogs. They don't along well with dog owners who are inexperienced. To control this dog you need to be a confident person and if you are not, the dog will take notice of this quickly. He will then rule over the household and will also dominate you. To make sure that this does not happen, you must be strict with your dog.

It's good to get these dogs trained when they are small. Enroll them in obedience training classes and make sure that they are properly trained before they get too huge for you to handle. They are powerful animals and this makes the obedience training all the more important. This way your dog will also learn some socializing skills. These dogs do not need much grooming. You can clean his teeth and trim his nails. You can also brush his coat weekly. This will remove all the loose hair and the dirt from the coat and make it look healthy and smooth.

They are a healthy breed and do not develop any major health problems. However they are prone to develop kidney problems. You can consult your veterinarian and feed him with a diet that lessens kidney problems. They can also develop deafness or heart diseases.

Bull Terrier requires proper care. They should never be mistreated. A mistreated old dog can never be actually trustworthy and it should not be put in a home where there are small children. If you are ready to take that extra effort to train your dog, then Bull Terrier is the right breed for you. Of course for training these dogs one needs to have some past experiences in dog training.
